HD Cinema now is providing 3D Stereo production and post services.
In April 2009 HD Cinema provided equipment and consulting for a feature length comedy shooting in 3D stereo. A beamsplitter mirror rig with two Sony XDCAM EX3 cameras recorded in full 10 bit 422 1080/24p to a dual input HDCAM SR vtr. This rig will accomodate RED, SI 2K and other HD digital video cameras.
On set 3D stereo monitoring is real time with a special processor which flips the image from the mirrored camera, then times the other camera for 3D display on 24" 3D LCD monitors both live and with playback from the SR deck.
A dual follow focus system synchronizes the standard Fuji 14x lenses, but the Sony EX3 has an interchangeable lens mount that allows 1/2" and 2/3" B4 lenses to be used as well.
Post production is currently using standard 2D editorial decision making techniques, with a separate Stereo Player but will very soon be available using Final Cut Pro with the new Cineform Neo3D editorial workflow. This software allows Display support for 3D moniotrs, Real Time Convergence adjustment, and individual channel or dual stereo color adjustment.
